A wide range of day case, inpatient, outpatient and maternity services are provided. Accident and Emergency facilities are based at Warwick Hospital. Cancer ServicesA high quality and rapidly expanding cancer (oncology) service is provided for the 270,000-strong population of South Warwickshire. Warwick Hospital provides swift diagnosis and treatment services for all major tumours and blood cancers.
Some 800 people in South Warwickshire are newly diagnosed with cancer each year. The established multi-disciplinary teams work with each patient to ensure they receive the most appropriate and timely treatment for their condition.
By Autumn 2008, a new state-of-the-art, purpose-built Ambulatory Cancer Unit will open at Warwick Hospital. It will provide day case and outpatient treatment facilities for many patients with a diagnosis or suspected diagnosis of cancer. Additionally, it will house a dedicated information centre for patients, carers and staff.
To prepare for this landmark development, the South Warwickshire General Hospitals NHS Trust appointed its first Cancer Nurse Consultant at the end of 2007. She will work closely with the Lead Cancer Clinician and Cancer Services Manager to ensure the service developed is robust and of the highest quality.
South Warwickshire General Hospitals NHS Trust already has Cancer Unit status, with established Multi-disciplinary teams (MDT) specialising in all major tumours, including breast, colorectal, dermatology, gynaecology, haematology, head and neck, lung, upper gastrointestinal and urology. Warwick Hospital also has strong links with colleagues at the Arden Cancer Centre at University Hospital, Coventry.
